Antique: Frederic Auguste Bartholdi - The Lion of Belfort
Patinated bronze. Relief by: Frederic Auguste Bartholdi ( 1834 - 1904 ) creator of the famous Statue of Liberty in New York. Bronze relief in the form of a lunette with a relief figure of a reclining lion on erect forepaws and raised head. The famous Belfort Lion statue was created to celebrate and thank the French soldiers who bravely defended the besieged city of Belfort against Prussian odds for 103 days in 1870. France 1875 - 1895. Height 14,5 cm, width 23 cm.
